Up-and-coming contemporary jazz musician Sam Dondo and his Impala Subway Crooners will be in Bulawayo later this month to launch Dondo’s debut album, Dyara Minamato.
The album launch will also serve as a way of promoting the new artiste’s career in the city.
Slated for May 28 at Cape to Cairo, the launch will see Dondo sharing the stage with Sandra Ndebele and Jeys Marabini. Tickets have been pegged at $5.
Dondo’s manager, Luckmore Muzava, said the new kid on the musical block would arrive in Bulawayo a day before the event.
“Sam will be in Bulawayo on May 27 to attend Khuliyo and Sandra Ndebele’s show at Bulawayo Theatre. We want to support fellow local artistes and it’ll be good to see what Bulawayo has to offer on the eve of the launch,” said Muzava.
The Bulawayo show follows a successful album launch in Harare last month which featured the country’s big five artistes, Oliver Mtukudzi, Winky D, Jah Prayzah, Alick Macheso and Sulumani Chimbetu.
Meanwhile, Macheso will also be in town on May 27 to give Bulawayo fans a feel of his latest album– Tsoka Dzerwendo.
The album, which sold 100,000 copies on its first day of release, will be launched at the Large City hall car park.
His manager, Lucky Macheso, said Macheso would, apart from dishing out his brand new album, welcome rebel members of Orchestra Mberikwazvo, Franco Slomo, guitarist Noel Nyazanda, drummer Obert Gomba and chanter Jonas Kasamba who ditched him in 2013 to form Extra Kwazvose.
However, the quartet failed to attract fans, leaving them with no option but to rejoin Macheso earlier this year.
“We’ll reintroduce Kasamba, Gomba and Nyazanda who have since come back. New dances such as Chiuta and the Zebra Kick will also be unveiled in Bulawayo,” said Macheso.
Both Macheso and Dondo’s albums will be available at the shows for $1 per copy.
