URBAN Grooves musician Sanii Makhalima and up-and-coming R’n’B artiste Alaina have partnered on a music video for his latest track Ndiperudo. The video is set to be released next week. Makhalima, who last year had reportedly fallen on hard times after his Umsindo Recording Studios shut down because of unpaid rentals, was in Bulawayo last month to shoot the music video at various venues dotted around the city.
He said he roped in Alaina (real name Shanice Pullen) to co-star on the video that was directed and edited by Andy “Cutta” Sobhuza.
“Talented Alaina co-starred with me on the music video as a girl who broke my heart. The song is a plea for someone to give me true love,” said Makhalima.
The Usadaro hit-maker said Ndiperudo was off his forthcoming 20-track double CD album The Ark which he hopes to release towards the end of the year. The album will feature urban grooves artiste Leonard Mapfumo, dancehall artiste Shinsoman and soulful urban grooves artiste Trevor Dongo.
He, however, said featuring Shinsoman did not mean he was venturing into dancehall.
“I have worked with Shinsoman for the past eight years on a number of projects. I know people are going to start thinking that I am turning to dancehall,” said Makhalima.
He added that he was planning to work with Alaina on more tracks.
“I am eager to work with Alaina. I have already written a song called Crazy and it’s a love song. I know she is talented and will do a great job,” said Makhalima.
With previous videos Juice Box by Alaina and Waiting for Love by Blackbird, all by Andy Cutta, making it on the Zimbabwe Music Awards Best music video of the year list, Makhalima’s forthcoming video will be highly anticipated to be one of the best in the country.
