THE thrill of Christmas will descend on Bulawayo’s oldest high density suburb tomorrow when the fictional character Santa Claus visits Makokoba.

Organised by veteran drummer-cum-playwright Lewis Ndlovu, the event at Thabiso Youth Centre will be targeting children from the neighbourhood.

Festivities will start at 3PM with music, dance, drumming and games. Also, as part of the early Christmas celebrations, a fireworks display, photo sessions with Santa and carols by candlelight have been included.

Ndlovu said they wanted to bring cheer to underprivileged children in Makokoba.

“Most kids, some orphans and youths from this oldest township who grew up in post Zimbabwe hardships have never experienced Father Christmas – Santa Claus and have not been happy in a long time. As such, we intend to make children of Makokoba happy by hosting this event.

“We want them to have a sense of celebration and educate them on what Christmas is and its meaning,” said Ndlovu.

As it is known that Santa Claus comes bearing gifts, Ndlovu said they were accepting donations in cash and kind for children from Makokoba to at least receive presents during the day.

“We want to partner with companies and individuals who will donate in cash or kind. These donations will be shared with beneficiaries who will be identified from the community.”
