Sanyati Rural District Council plans to rehabilitate the 100 km stretch along the Golden Valley-Sanyati Road, among some of the key programmes to be undertaken under Government’s 100-day plan.

The new political dispensation has encouraged Government departments to come up with quick-win projects that have the potential to impact on people’s lives. Sanyati RDC is believed to be one of the local authorities that performed exceptionally well in 2017.

Addressing district administrators and heads of local authorities from Mashonaland West in Chinhoyi recently, Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Dr Joram Gumbo indicated that though the Zimbabwe National Road Administration had availed $144 350 to Sanyati, the local authority managed to spend $268 000 on road rehabilitation. Sanyati RDC chief executive Mr Achim Shadaya said council was working towards rehabilitating the 100km stretch linking Sanyati to Kadoma.

“We are looking at the gravelling and compacting of the Golden Valley-Sanyati Road network.

“This is the road that connects Kadoma and Sanyati. This road was badly damaged by rains in the previous (rainy season),” he said. Mr Shadaya said work on the road was already underway. Renje Bridge, which was washed away last year, is being repaired.

“So far we have tarred 1,4km of the road and we have covered 2,1 km of pothole patching, as well as monitored grading and spot gravelling done on 96,5km section of the road.

“Renje Bridge that had been washed away has also been repaired and our incurred costs as of today are at $98 400,” he said. Mr Shadaya said council intended to rehabilitate 25km of the Golden Valley-Chakari gravel road, which was also badly damaged by rains.

Sanyati is also targeting to complete the Golden Valley and Kwayedza housing projects, where it plans to spruce up the infrastructure — water and sewer reticulation — at the fast-growing business centre.
