PIONEERING umpire and former Zimbabwe international cricketer Sarah Dambanevana has died.
She was 36.

Zimbabwe Cricket confirmed that Sarah died in Harare in the early hours of Monday.

“Dambanevana had remained in hospital receiving care since undergoing a medical procedure in March,” said ZC.

“Her passing leaves Zimbabwean cricket mourning a trailblazer whose dedication and achievements took her from representing her country as a player to officiating on some of the game’s biggest stages.

“Born on 26 May 1990, Dambanevana represented Zimbabwe Women between 2009 and 2014, including at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in 2011.

“A former fast bowler, she later channelled her knowledge of and passion for cricket into umpiring, building a distinguished second career in the sport she loved.”
