The Botswana international, who signed a three-year deal worth P400 000 with the platinum miners in March, might not kick the ball at FC Platinum should a move to South Africa materialise.
A highly placed source in Botswana yesterday said the player is likely to be caught in a wrangle as Be Mobile champions Mochudi Centre Chiefs had started negotiating with Bloemfontein Celtic.
The source said the Bloemfontein Celtic chief executive officer Khumbulani Konco was today expected in Gaborone, Botswana, to seal the Mogorosi deal.
“The Bloemfontein Celtic CEO is expected to meet Mochudi Centre Chiefs chairman Ernest Molome in Gaborone tomorrow over Joel Mogorosi. Actually, what Mochudi Centre Chiefs is trying is refund FC Platinum and then cash in on the Bloemfontein Celtic deal which is said to be at least one million pula,” said the source.
With such figures being dangled around Mochudi Centre Chiefs, who have a record of reversing deals, a bitter fight for the player with FC Platinum is looming.
In 2010, Mocambola League champions Liga Muculmana reportedly agreed on a R70 000 with Mochudi Centre Chiefs for the transfer of Botswana striker Pontsho Moloi. They paid the amount and up to this day the Mozambican club claims they never got their money back or the player.
FC Platinum should be wary of Mochudi Centre Chiefs and monitor the developments that have seen even Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns joining the race for Mogorosi.
The Bloemfontein Celtic boss, Konco, confirmed that his side was interested in Mogorosi but reports that the player had signed for FC Platinum had made them approach the matter with caution.
“Nothing has been finalised on Mogorosi and it is difficult to comment at the moment because we are investigating to establish who owns the player between Centre Chiefs and FC Platinum. We made enquiries about Mogorosi’s availability to the club he plays for (Mochudi Centre Chiefs) after recommendations from our scouts.
“Once something comes up I will let you know,” said Konco who sounded surprised to learn that Mogorosi had already signed for FC Platinum.
Mogorosi was one of the star players at the Madinda Ndlovu-coached Botswana Premiership champions.
The Zebras striker once played under Rahman Gumbo at Mochudi Centre Chiefs in 2011 before Gumbo moved to FC Platinum.
Contacted for comment, FC Platinum’s spokesman Philemon Muvengwa said: “As far as we are concerned, Joel Mogorosi is our player and no one has approached us for his services. He is coming in July and will start playing once the mid-season transfer window opens because all his papers with us have been sorted out.”
Repeated efforts to get comment from the Mochudi Centre Chiefs chairman Molome were fruitless as his mobile phone went unanswered.
