A 25-YEAR-OLD man has been slapped with a five-year jail term after a drunken fight over beer at Lalapanzi Business Centre.
Brendon Muzira (25) attacked a 31-year-old man on 6 August, striking him three times on the face and head with a brick. According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the victim escaped and was rushed to Mvuma Hospital, bleeding heavily.
Police quickly arrested Muzira.
“Violent conduct, particularly linked to alcohol abuse, will be met with firm justice. Violence is not a solution. Let’s resolve disputes peacefully,”
said the authority in a statement. Muzira was sentenced to seven years, with two years suspended on condition of good behaviour.
The NPAZ urged communities to report violent behaviour early before lives are lost.
