ARTS organisation Savanna Trust is set to light up the theatre stage across Zimbabwe this September with the launch of two international collaborative theatre productions.
The first play, Women’s Night, is a comedy that promises to deliver laughter while sparking thought-provoking conversations.
Set to be launched at Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre on the 17th of September, the production is a collaboration between Savanna Trust and Kuckuck Productions from Switzerland and will be directed by Roger Nydegger, a renowned Swiss theatre director celebrated for his innovative approach to comedy and social commentary.
Following this, Savanna Trust will stage ZI – Animal Farm, a Zimbabwean adaptation of George Orwell’s timeless allegory, Animal Farm. This play will be officially launched during the Intwasa Arts festival in Bulawayo on September 26.
The play is being directed by acclaimed South African theatre director Bongani Masango, whose bold and visually captivating work has earned him recognition across the region.
ZI – Animal Farm will reimagine Orwell’s classic narrative within a local context, offering audiences a powerful lens through which to reflect on contemporary social and political dynamics.
Maposa said productions mark an important step in strengthening cultural exchange while showcasing local talent on the professional stage.
“The significance of these productions is to amplify cross-cultural collaboration and expand the reach of Zimbabwean theatre. Working with international partners and directors allows Savanna Trust to push creative boundaries while strengthening the professional capacity of local theatre artistes.
