CIVIL servants have been urged to save their income and inevst wisely so that they continue to lead decent lives after retirement.
This was said by the Retirement Planning Officer in the Public Service Commission, Mrs Everjoice Shoshore, during an engagement meeting with civil servants from Makoni District today.
Mrs Shoshore said civil servants must be prudent in spending and invest in commercial activities, build houses, invest in livestock, register trusts to safeguard their possessions and write wills. She also urged them to insure their properties, acquire new skills, have regular medical check ups and embrace medical aid.

“Retirement is certain, and we must not be caught unaware. We will not remain in our positions and titles forever. One day we will leave whether prepared or not. To safeguard ourselves from facing challenges in retirement we must start saving now, build homes either in towns or in rural areas. Those living in Government houses must not relax. Investment in livestock such as cattle, goats, sheep and others must be considered as they will cushion you in time of need.We encourage you to have family trusts and write down wills so that you leave behind your estate in order. Let us have regular medical check ups and have medical insurance,” she said.

Public Service Commission General Manager (Communications and Stakeholder Engagement), Ms Margret Muzumara, said the interactive engagement enabled the employees to get expert advice on retirement.
“The interaction between PSC and its employees who came up in huge numbers was very pleasing. We brought an important subject of transition from work into retirement. They got important lessons on being prepared for retirement and the importance of maintaing good health,” she said.
There were presenters from National Social Security Authority (NSSA), Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) and civil servants were accorded ample opportunities to ask questions to these critical institutions.
