Say no to drugs — Child President

Neville Mavu

FELLOW Zimbabweans, as the Child President, I have an important message for you, one of hope and inspiration. It is also a call for action.

Our beautiful continent, Africa, is faced with challenges like drug abuse and climate change. It is up to us, Zimbabweans and other Africans, to take a stand and make a positive difference.

Firstly, drug abuse is a problem that has affected the whole world. Drugs can have a devastating impact on our lives, health and future prospects.

They can hinder our personal growth, limit our potential and harm our relationships with loved ones.

Therefore, I urge you all, dear friends, to make a conscious decision to say no to drugs.

Instead, let us focus on nurturing our minds, bodies and talents.

Education, sports, the arts and community involvement are powerful alternatives to drugs.

Let us support one another in making wise choices and creating a positive
peer culture that promotes a drug-free lifestyle.

Now, let us turn our attention to another important issue — climate change. Our planet is facing unprecedented challenges, and we must act urgently to protect it for generations to come.

Climate change affects us all — from extreme weather events to diminishing natural resources. It is time for us to rise and become innovative leaders who will tackle this global crisis.

I encourage each and every one of you to come up with innovative ideas on how we can combat climate change. Let us explore renewable energy sources, practise sustainable agriculture, promote recycling and waste reduction, and preserve our forests and wildlife.

Together, we can make a significant impact and create a greener and cleaner Zimbabwe.

Remember, fellow youths, that we are not alone in this journey. We have the support of our communities, our parents, our teachers and our Government.

Let us seize this opportunity to be agents of positive change and role models for our peers.

I believe in the power of Zimbabwean youths. I have witnessed your creativity, resilience and passion.

Let us channel these qualities towards building a brighter future for ourselves and our beloved nation.

I am here to listen to your ideas, to support your initiatives and to be your voice in shaping policies that prioritise the well-being of our youths and the sustainability of our environment.

Together, let us commit ourselves to a drug-free lifestyle, and finding innovative solutions to climate change.

The future of Zimbabwe depends on us, and I am confident that, united, we can achieve greatness.

Neville Mavu of Goromonzi High School is the Child President.
