Tafara Mapurisa’s story is a vibrant tapestry of hope and resilience, woven together by the threads of President Mnangagwa’s visionary ED-UNZA scholarship programme.
As the first graduate of this initiative, Tafara’s journey is a shining testament to the transformative power of education.
With his mother’s sudden illness casting a shadow over his academic aspirations, Tafara’s future seemed uncertain.
But President Mnangagwa’s scholarship programme, launched in 2019, illuminated a new path forward.
This brainchild of the President aims to empower girls and boys from disadvantaged families, bridging the gap between potential and opportunity.
Today, Tafara stands tall as a Computer Science graduate, his software engineering expertise honed through hard work and determination.
Completing a four-year programme in just three years, Tafara’s achievement is a beacon of inspiration.
“I graduated with a credit, and I’m ready to tackle the industry,” he said, his voice filled with confidence.
“It is a four-year programme but I did it in three years, I was exempted from the first year and started in the second year.
“I graduated with a credit and I am ready to tackle the industry,” he said in an interview recently.
The ED-UNZA scholarship programme has opened doors for 56 Zimbabwean students studying in Zambia and 16 Zambians studying in Zimbabwe.
The current batch of students in this programme is pursuing diverse fields, including Actuarial Sciences, Law, Agronomy, Medicine, Bio-Chemistry, Electronic Engineering, and PhD studies in Mineral Business Studies.
Tafara’s message to those from disadvantaged backgrounds resonates with hope: “I would want to say to those that come from disadvantaged backgrounds, keep the hope because our President has given me hope and light so continue working hard no matter your background because you never know when the opportunity will come to you.”
His journey was made smoother by the ED-UNZA scholarship administration, which offered constant support and guidance.
“The journey was made easy by the administration from the ED-UNZA scholarship, they were continuously checking up on us and they were helping us.
“They were constantly trying to make our lives better and ensuring that our living is okay,” he said.
As Tafara embarks on this new chapter, his story serves as a reminder that hope can bloom in the most challenging circumstances.
President Mnangagwa’s vision has not only transformed Tafara’s life, but has also created a ripple effect, inspiring countless others to chase their dreams.
