Using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), Government has built a two-classroom block for A Level learners at Masarakufa Secondary School in Mudzi, bringing relief to learners.

Pupils had been travelling for long distances to Kotwa business centre and some rented rooms so they could attend A Level studies there.

Those who could not afford rentals walked for more than 10km to the next high school.

That challenge will be history, now that through the Constituency Development Fund, a new A Level classroom block has been completed at Masarakufa Secondary school.

What is left is for the furniture to be put in place then it will be ready for use.

Mudzi North legislator Magna Mudyiwa toured the block, where she expressed satisfaction with the whole structure, and learners thanked Government for the gift.

“When I became the MP of this constituency, I embarked on a programme to visit schools here to appreciate their challenges. I came here at Masarakufa Secondary School and saw an urgent need for A Level and decided to use Constituency Development Funds towards building classroom blocks here.

“The whole constituency has two secondary schools that offer Advanced Level and this will be the third one. Learners who wish to proceed to A Level are currently renting rooms, especially at Kotwa growth point, a scenario which is not advised for those learners to stay alone at their age. They end up indulging in activities like drug and substance abuse which can affect their studies.

“Now we have a block of two classrooms here, I want to urge beneficiaries to utilise this productively and work hard in their studies. It is my wish that this block be furnished as soon as possible so that learners benefit,” Cde Mudyiwa said.

During the construction phase, Mudzi Rural District Council offered technical expertise, among other services.

Masarakufa ward 8 councillor Mrs Chipo Mutero (ZANU PF) thanked Government and her legislator for making sure the CDF was put to good use.

“I want to thank the Second Republic for development programmes here in Mudzi. I am happy that there is development in my ward and that Government is investing in our children’s education.

“There was no A Level at this school which was a big challenge for pupils and parents. But now all that will be over. Our children here will advance their studies at this school which is near their homes, which is good for us. There are a lot of programmes being funded through CDF in this ward and we are thankful to Cde Mudyiwa for using those funds towards development of our areas.”

Masarakufa Secondary School Development Chairman Mr Ranganai Nyaodza said construction of the block started in 2016 and was stalled by lack of funds.

He thanked Government for the CDF and the community for the unwavering support through various resources they brought which have seen completion of the classrooms.

The school headmaster Mr Peter Dhinga also thanked all those who extended their support towards establishment of the A Level classrooms at the school.

“CDF assisted much to ensure the block was completed and we are thankful as a school. All the material was acquired using CDF and we are grateful. It has always been our wish to have A Level at this school and now our wish has been granted.

“All the paperwork is now in place for our school to have A Level status, we are upgrading and we are excited, our learners are happy, they will not be walking for long distances anymore.”

Form 4 learner at the school Shamiso Gonzo said she is happy that now A Level studies will be done at the school.

“We are happy that our school will be having A Level studies and we will not be going to far away schools. This is good for us. I am thankful to our legislator, our council and Government for the funds which were channelled towards construction of this block.”

Brendon Chari also thanked Government and all individuals who played a role to ensure the block was complete.

“Some of the learners who passed the their O Level are walking long distances to the next school for their A Level studies. It is hard. However, that challenge will not affect us, we have our block complete so that come next year, we will be doing our A Level studies right here. We are happy because Government has fulfilled our wish. We will work hard and make this school and our parents proud.”
