School of Mines gets US$1,1m equipment

Mines and Mining Development Deputy Minister, Engineer Polite Kambamura today officially handed over and commissioned lapidairy equipment worth US$1,1 million at the Zimbabwe School of Mines in Bulawayo.

The equipment which is housed at the Gemstone and Lapiary Workshop is donated by the Marketing Minerals Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ).

This is the first phase of the equipment which is expected to promote value addition and benefication in the gemstone sector.

Deputy minister Eng Kambambura said the equipment dovetails with promotion of value addition thrust and will play a pivotal role in being an incubation centre.

Said MMCZ chairman, Dr Issac Kwesu, “The collaboration being celebrated today aligns  perfectly with the country’s economic blueprint, the National Development Strategy 1- a road mapto achieving Vision 2023 which seek to create a middle class economy,” he said.

The second phase is expected to be complete be year end.
