Schools chess league finals on

CORNELIUS Hope Academy will host the finals of the Crystal Candy National Schools Chess League Finals, with more than 20 schools expected to participate this morning.

The Goodhope-based college will host the tournament organised in partnership with Crystal Candy Zimbabwe and has seen an overwhelming response from schools across the country.

The Crystal Candy National Schools Chess League has witnessed an impressive participation of over 150 primary and secondary schools from all 10 provinces of Zimbabwe. 

Zimbabwe Chess Federation acting president Muchakanakirwa Mkanganwi said they are happy with the progress made so far as the tournament helps in promoting the sport from a young age.

“The event promises to be a thrilling showcase of wit and genius as the best young chess players from schools across the nation compete for the ultimate glory of their schools and provinces.

“We are looking forward to an intense and exciting competitions which our sport needs to grow. We are grateful to Crystal Candy Zimbabwe for their invaluable support and commitment in making this league a resounding success as well as their determination to grow our chess in

Zimbabwe. Their commitment to nurturing young chess talent is commendable and aligns with ZCF’s vision of promoting chess as a sport and educational tool,” said Mkanganwi.

This prestigious event, consist of two phases, namely the provincial competitions held between May and June and the national event whose finals are today. 

 The provincial competitions were a platform for schools to showcase their chess prowess and representatives emerged in the primary boys and Girls, as well as secondary boys, and girls categories.
