Schools to get free seed

PUBLIC schools will soon start receiving free seed from Government to enable them to grow crops and empower teachers to be involved in production, a senior Government official has said.

Speaking at a Teachers for Economic Development (Teachers 4 ED) seminar in Harare yesterday, Harare Metropolitan Province Permanent Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Mr Tafadzwa Muguti urged teachers to be involved in developing the country.

“Each school is going to get seed so that they start growing maize not only to benefit teachers or sell at GMB but also for pupils. Nothing stops schools from growing their own food and building canteens so that children are given proper meals at schools,” he said.

Speaking at the same event, Chitepo School of Ideology Principal, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha said teachers should be guided by Vision 2030 in discharge of their duties as they form the first line of defence for national interests.

Cde Machacha, who is also a ZANU PF Politburo member, rallied teachers to not only produce excellent students but be actively involved in economic emancipation.

“Chitepo School of Ideology is partnering Teachers for ED to influence and effect a change of mind-set. To that end, as teachers and resultantly your products, the students should respond and answer to President Mnangagwa’s clarion call for teachers to produce goods and services that will contribute towards economic growth of our country,” he said.
