A 10-year-old boy from Tsholotsho died on the spot while his younger brother and friend were injured after a donkey drawn cart they were travelling in hit a tree stump and overturned.
Acting Matabeleland North police spokesperson, Sergeant Namatirai Mashona, confirmed the accident that occurred on Thursday last week in Mahliki Line under Chief Gampu.
Sabelo Moyo died while his younger brother Sibusiso Moyo and friend Ryan Ncube both aged six, sustained injuries.
“On September 5 at about 11AM Sabelo Moyo of Hlangulani Moyo’s homestead in Mahliki Line under Chief Gampu and his aunt Miss Thandoluhle Sibanda (21) harnessed two donkeys to the scotch cart to fetch water from a nearby river. Miss Sibanda instructed Sabelo to take with him, his younger brother Sibusiso Moyo aged 6,” said Sgt Mashona.
She said after giving the instruction, Miss Sibanda left the homestead using a short cut going to the same river to meet the cart.
Sabelo took Sibusiso and Ryan with him.
“After travelling a short distance from the homestead, the scotch cart hit a tree stump on the left side and overturned, killing Sabelo on the spot,” said Sgt Mashona.
Sibusiso and Ryan were referred to hospital where they were treated and discharged.
Sabelo’s body was taken to Tsholotsho Hospital for postmortem while police are investigating the accident, Sgt Mashona highlighted.—@ncubeleon
