The Italian giants indicated that McTominay, 29, will have the treatment in the next few days.
The statement read: “Following the onset of a mild benign arrhythmia, Scott McTominay will undergo corrective surgery using a cardiac arrhythmia ablation (PFA) in the coming days.
“He will be available again after the international break.”
McTominay’s diagnosis means that his heart is occasionally beating out of its normal rhythm.
Ablation is one treatment for arrythmia. Pulsed field ablation (PFA) – which is what Scott is having – is when electrical pulses destroy the section of the heart that’s causing the faulty rhythm.
It is not clear what the cause of Scott’s arrythmia is. Some of the most common include artrial fibrilation, supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and heart blocks.
Most arrythmias are not dangerous but some need treatment depending on the cause.
McTominay joined Napoli from Manchester United in August 2024 on a £25.7million deal.
The United academy product had been with the Red Devils since attending their football school as a five-year-old.
Over the course of his Man Utd tenure, McTominay made 255 appearances under four different permanent managers, scoring 29 goals and providing eight assists. – The Sun
