FRESH from clearing the first hurdle of their maiden CAF Champions League campaign, Zimbabwe soccer kings Scottland will be under pressure to keep their possible quadruple alive when they host
Hardrock in a potentially explosive Chibuku Super Cup quarter-final at Rufaro this afternoon.
Scottland are chasing glory on four fronts and could become the first Zimbabwean side to win all the four titles they are after in the 2026 season.
Norman Mapeza’s men are looking to retain the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League championship where they have a point’s advantage over Hardrock.
Mabviravira also have huge interests in the CAF Champions League, the Zifa Munhumutapa Challenge Cup and the Chibuku Super Cup.
The Caf Champions League is still a long shot but Scottland were left a happy lot after seeing off the challenge of Eswatini side Nzingizini in the first preliminary round to set up a date against Atletico Petroleos of Angola in the second round.
Mapeza has always preached the gospel of taking it step by step and this afternoon the former Zimbabwe coach must negotiate another hurdle which Hardrock present to their Chibuku Super Cup quest.
However, Scottland midfielder Emmanuel Ziocha is confident his side can overcome Hardrock and remain in contention for honours on all four fronts.
Scottland’s demanding fixture schedule means they have little time to celebrate any of their recent triumphs.
While Ziocha believes confidence within their camp is high, he warned that Hardrock cannot be underestimated in a competition renowned for producing surprises.
“We are positive about getting a good result, but we know it will not be an easy match,” said Ziocha.
“Hardrock have reached the quarter-finals because they are a good side, and we have to respect them.
“Cup matches are different because everything is decided on the day.
“We have prepared well, and everyone understands the importance of the match. Our focus is on giving our best and making sure that we progress to the next round.”
Scottland’s depth is already being tested by the packed programme but Mapeza showed his capacity to juggle with his side when making five changes to the team, which started in the 0-0 draw against Nsingizini, away in Mbabane.
Ziocha reckons that their continental assignment has strengthened the players’ mentally.
“Qualifying in the Champions League gave us confidence, but that game is now behind us,” he said.
“We have turned our attention to the Chibuku Super Cup because it is another important competition for the club. We want to continue winning and competing for every trophy available.
“The schedule is demanding, but as players, we must be ready whenever we are called upon.
“The technical team will decide who plays, and everyone in the squad is prepared to contribute.”
Scottland will start as favourites, but Hardrock will be hoping to capitalise on any fatigue within the hosts’ camp and pull off an upset.
Ziocha said discipline and patience would be crucial to Scottland’s chances of securing a place in the semi-finals.
“We must remain focused, follow the coaches’ instructions and take our chances,” he said.
“We are confident, but we know confidence alone will not win the match. We must prove ourselves on the pitch,” he said.
Hardrock have a potent attack that is fronted by Premiership leading scorer Washington Navaya and Prince Dube.
