SAKUBVA Stadium will witness the return of the electric atmosphere that once characterise Zimbabwe’s top-flight league football matches, as Scottland FC face off against GreenFuel FC in the Chibuku Super Cupfirst round tie on Sunday afternoon.
One thing undeniable about Scottland FC, whether you love or hate them, is their ability to revive the classic excitement that once filled top-flight league football match venues nationwide, with Sakubva Stadium set to host another electrifying atmosphere this Sunday.
Stepping away from the Castle Lager Premiership League’s relegation and championship battles, the spotlight shifts to the
Harare-based side’s clash with the unpredictable Chisumbanje outfit.
While Scottland FC will rely on their loyal supporters – the 12th man – who have consistently rallied behind them, Sunday’s encounter promises to be a challenging contest, given that GreenFuel FC, being a Manicaland-based team, may garner sympathy from locals in the terraces.
Scottland FC’s recent form in the Premiership, however, suggests they are a force to reckon with, having thrashed former champions FC Platinum 5-2, a convincing win that left coach, Norman Mpeza reeling, admitting it was his worst defeat since starting his coaching career.
In a stunning turn of events reminiscent of a title victory celebration, Scottland FC made a bold statement by inflicting FC Platinum’s first defeat of the season.
The recent acquisition of revered forward, Knowledge ‘The Smiling Assassin’ Musona, who made his debut in the 76th minute against FC Platinum, adds significant firepower to the title-chasing Harare club.
Scottland FC cheerleader, Malvin ‘Schneider’ Makarawu, said: “Make no mistake, this is just another victory for Scottland FC. As supporters, we are delighted with the team’s progress in this short space of time.
“We are looking forward to an entertaining game on Sunday, although we acknowledge that GreenFuel FC are no pushovers. We hope the better team wins fairly. We urge football enthusiasts, regardless of whether they support Dynamos, CAPS United, or Highlanders, to come and enjoy a great game of football.”Kelvin Justice Mapangisana, an ardent domestic top-flight league follower and Manica Diamonds staunch fan, said: “Even though my team (Manica Diamonds) will be playing its first round Chibuku Super Cup encounter away from home, the match pitting Scottland and GreenFuel FC is a must-attend for any person who follows the game of football locally.
“It promises to be a highly entertaining encounter, and one that will surely draw numbers in terms of fans in the terraces. While Scottland will have an edge over GreenFuel FC, given their status in the league, some of us will surely be rooting for GreenFuel FC since it is our home team.
For that reason, we will be supporting them for the entire 90 minutes.”
Brenda Gwitira, an enthusiastic football fan, who has never missed a Premiership match at Sakubva Stadium since the start of the 2025 season, said: “I just hope they will manage the gates well because there will be many people coming to watch this encounter. Fans should arrive early to avoid disappointment at the gates. The last time Scottland FC played at Sakubva Stadium, some fans only gained entry at half-time, which is not ideal for those spending hard-earned cash. I pray the better team wins.”
