A NUMBER of local football sides have enquired on the availability of ex-Azam United of Tanzania utility player Bruce Kangwa, Chronicle Sport can reveal.

Kangwa was recently released by Azam making him a free agent and he can join a local club any time following the closure of the Zifa second transfer-window on Monday.

In an interview on his way to Israel late yesterday, Kangwa’s manager George Deda revealed that Bosso, newboys Sheasham, Simba Bhora and Northern Region One side MWOS were targeting to rope in the former Warriors player.

“Highlanders have enquired about Kangwa’s availability. We are waiting for the club’s chief executive officer to come back to us. The player wants another dance with Highlanders. Other teams that include Simba Bhora, Sheasham and MWOS have also enquired about Kangwa’s availability,” said Deda.

Kangwa (33), who was rumoured to have been keeping fit at Bosso, yesterday disclosed that he was in neighbouring South Africa resting.

“I’m currently in South Africa. I’m resting. I’m a free agent, anything is possible. It is an open deal, I can always come back and play for Bosso,” said Kangwa.

Bosso communications and marketing officer Nozibelo Maphosa professed ignorance on their interest in Kangwa.

“We haven’t heard about Kangwa’s bouncing back. We will stand guided by our coaches but he has not been training with us,“ said Maphosa.

Kangwa was released at the end of June after seven years of service and the footballer certainly holds a special place in the hearts of Azam technical team members, teammates and followers.

He was captain of the club until the last match of the season just a few days before his release.

Appointed club captain a couple of seasons ago following his stellar performances and great work ethic on the left side of defence, the Tshabalala bred Kangwa certainly left the Tanzanians whom he captained mid-year in that country’s Football Association Cup final they lost 1-0 to Young Africans, with springs under his feet.

“My stay at Azam FC was great. l worked with different groups of people who appreciated me and I also appreciated them. It was great working with them and being appointed club captain. l got respect for it and l respected them for choosing me to be their leader. I captained the club for four years but at times not wearing the armband,” said Kangwa.

He won everything on offer in Tanzania except the league championship.

“It’s every player’s wish to win the league. So, it pains to leave the club without that league championship medal. However, it was about time for me to leave. I’m now going to look for a new challenge,” he said.

Kangwa also played in both the African Champions League and Caf Confederations Cup.

Deda described Kangwa as the ultimate professional who was humble and hardworking, always having a sense of belonging.
