SPORTS journalists from the southern region will today attend a one-day workshop on the 17 Laws of the Game to be facilitated by retired Fifa panel referee Thabani Mnkantjo who is also a member of the Zimbabwe Referees’ Committee which is chaired by Zifa president Philip Chiyangwa.
The workshop, to be held at the Bulawayo Press Club, is meant to endear the scribes with the latest trends in terms of the laws of the game which will in turn be beneficiary to their coverage of the game through a better appreciation of the laws.
Chairman of the Sports Association (Southern Region) Muziwethu Hadebe called upon Zifa to extend similar workshops to other key stakeholders especially in view of what has been happening of late in the local game as that can also play a key role in even reducing crowd trouble at matches.
“As Spoja, Southern Region we believe that this is a very important workshop on the laws of the game. We have engaged a former top referee who is in the referees’ committee so that he can impart knowledge on this key subject. We therefore call upon all our members and other sport journalists in the region who are not necessarily Spoja members to come and attend this important workshop where we will expand our knowledge on the laws of the game as well as share ideas on the subject. It is our hope that Zifa will extend such workshops to all stakeholders in the country,” said Hadebe, a renowned television and radio sports commentator and analyst.
Legendary former Zimbabwe Saints, AmaZulu and Dynamos midfield magician Ronald Gidiza Sibanda, now a football analyst on Star FM radio is also expected to attend the workshop.
