THE Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in the SADC region has expressed solidarity with victims of the recent floods, pledging support to countries including Zimbabwe, which have been hit by heavy rains.

Pastor Harrington Akombwa, who leads the Southern African Indian Division of the General Conference of the SDA Church, said the church’s humanitarian arm, Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA), is actively assisting affected communities.

“A number of countries within our territory have experienced traumatic experiences and as a church we cannot afford to remain mute. This is because God is also touched by our pain and suffering. We are deeply troubled by recent flooding which has claimed 38 lives in South Africa, 70 in Zimbabwe, and more than 100 in Mozambique,” he said in a statement.

Pastor Akombwa added that the church would actively respond to the needs of those affected by the floods. He also mourned the death of 14 learners in a crash in South Africa on Monday.

Beyond the loss of life, the floods have caused significant destruction to infrastructure across the affected countries, necessitating substantial funding for repairs. Emergency relief services in Zimbabwe remain on high alert, providing support to victims.
