Seven more Zimbabwean deportees from the United Kingdom arrived in the country yesterday and are now under 10-day quarantine at the Zimbabwe Institute of Public Administration and Management (ZIPAM) pending re-integration into their local communities.

It was all gloomy faces as the second group of deportees disembarked from a Boeing 767-300 aircraft that touched down at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport at 10am.

They shied away from cameras as they walked on the airport tarmac before completing immigration formalities.

The group was taken to ZIPAM aboard a Zupco bus where all expenses will be covered by the Government.

Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Commissioner for Refugees Mr Totamirepi Tirivavi said relatives of the returnees would be allowed to meet them after the mandatory 10 days of quarantine.

“From here we are taking them to ZIPAM where they will be in quarantine for ten days. During that period, we will make an effort to locate their relatives,” he said.

ZIPAM acting director general Dr Edgar Makande said: “These are our own so we will just give them good reception like we did to the past group.

“They will enjoy free wi-fi connectivity and watch television just like anyone else,” he said.

While residents returning to Zimbabwe voluntarily are required to undergo mandatory quarantine, they have to do so at their own expense.

Those who test positive to Covid-19 will be expected to isolate at a centre of their choice.

The British government has embarked on a programme to deport foreign nationals, including Zimbabweans, who have been released from detention after serving jail terms for various offences.
