Secondary school heads lobby for international competitions

In an interview yesterday Nash national vice-chairman Arthur Maphosa said they would soon engage their regional counterparts.
This comes after Nash president Johnson Madhuku raised the issue last week at the national athletics track and field finals that were held at Plumtree High School.
“We are going to push hard as Zimbabwe for the revival of Confederation of Schools Sport Association of Southern Africa (Cossasa).
We want all age groups to compete in the different sporting disciplines at regional level,” Maphosa said.
Madhuku had earlier said Nash’s position with regards to regional sport was that all school going children should be involved in the regional competitions hence they were going to lobby for this at the general assembly that is set for Gaborone in Botswana next month.
“It’s a sad story for the Zimbabwean secondary school athletes whose dreams end at the national competitions since there is no progression to the next                 stage as (Cossasa) only chose one age- group per year that  competes regionally and this year it is the Under-17s,”                            he said.
Nash heads have made it clear that they will stand firm in their stance of having regional competitions for all age- groups to be introduced.
“This is a concern that even the athletes expressed as they said they were disappointed by the failure to progress beyond national level,” said Maphosa.
The pupils said they can only be motivated if regional competitions were introduced for all age groups.
