Sect members run over by bus at church shrine

TWO girls belonging to the Zion Christian Church were killed when a bus that was parked at the church shrine suddenly moved backwards and ran over them. The two were seated behind the Zupco bus, one of several parked buses which were meant to ferry the church members back home.Acting police spokesperson for Midlands Province Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende said the accident occurred on Monday at about 8am at the Zion Christian Church’s Defe Dopota shrine in Gokwe where the church was having a conference.

“The two, both aged five, were part of the Zion Christian Church gathering that was at the church’s shrine in Defe Dopota where there was a conference,” said Asst Insp Mukwende.

“The bus rolled back while the engine was off and ran over the two girls. They died on the spot and the matter was reported to the police,” said Asst Insp Mukwende.

She said the bodies of the girls were taken to Gokwe District Hospital.
“The bus was towed to Gokwe Police Station awaiting an inspection by the Vehicle Inspection Department,” she said.
