Security forces have been urged to work together in defence of the country.
Addressing contestants at the 2019 Chief of Staff All Comers Shooting (COS) competition at Cleveland Rifle Range on Friday last week, Chief of Staff Major-General David Sigauke said the competition must be taken as an opportunity to sharpen the shooting skills which are needed to defend the country from its enemies.
“The COS All Comers Shoot is aimed at enhancing continuous development, fostering and sharpening of small arms shooting skills within formations and units, while affording an interactive atmosphere by promoting the much needed good rapport and cordial relationship already existing among security forces and other sectors of our society,” he said
“This is a manifestation of our determination to continue working together in a peaceful environment for the prosperity of our nation as we relate and share skills and experiences under the umbrella of sportsmanship.”
Maj-Gen Sigauke challenged the participants to continuously work hard so that in future competitions there would be new winners to show that training is taking place amongst the forces.
“As we project into the future, it is equally my expectation and desire that all new firers who performed exceptionally well in this shoot should be integrated with seasoned firers in succeeding editions in order to test them in competitions at highest level,” he said.
The 2019 edition drew participants from the ZNA, ZRP, Air force of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service, President’s Department and other non-uniformed competitors such as war veterans, Murenga Shooting Club, HQ 1 Brigade shooting club and Harare Municipality police shooting club.
This year the overall winner was Corporal Walter Machekano of Parachute Regiment followed by Trooper Tatenda Tevera of Mounted Regiment, with Private Peter Magara of Mechanised Brigade in third position.
