TWO Bulawayo security guards who assaulted a 65-year-old man after accusing him of stealing a bicycle have each been fined US$140 or face two months in prison.

Enock Ncube (61) and Mphathi Kweswa (46), both of Cowdray Park suburb, were convicted of assault by Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube.

Prosecuting, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete said the incident occurred on September 7 at about 5AM near Luveve Stadium.

The court heard that the complainant, Graff Mahlangu, was cycling in the area when Ncube and Kweswa confronted him over a bicycle allegedly stolen from Ncube.

“A misunderstanding arose between the three, resulting in Kweswa striking Mahlangu once on the right hand with a stone,” said Mr Dzimbanhete.

Mahlangu sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

A report was made to the police, leading to the arrest of the two security guards.
