MDC-T Harare Senator Sekai Holland has dumped Mr Morgan Tsvangirai and joined the MDC Renewal Team where she will assume the post of interim president.
According to the Mandel meeting in April this year that suspended Mr Tsvangirai and several other senior party members, Sen Holland was supposed to assume the position of interim president until congress next year.
The party’s secretary-general Mr Tendai Biti led the break away team.
Sen Holland yesterday said she decided to join the Renewal Team because MDC-T suited the personal needs of Mr Tsvangirai.
“It is clear that the MDC -Tsvangirai has become the personal property of an individual. It is time to reject that and return to our founding principles. The MDC Renewal Team is where those who still adhere to the original values and principles of the party are regrouping.
“The Mandel meeting was constitutional and the decision to put the party under the curatorship of the Guardian Council is in line with our constitution,” said Sen Holland, who chairs the Guardian Council.
Sen Holland said Mr Tsvangirai had rejected calls for unity and had manipulated the party constitution to suit his power ambitions for the past 15 years.
