PRIDE Sembo finally remembered how to win when he claimed the 2022 Zimbabwe Professional Golfers Association Championship at Country Club yesterday.
The Royal Harare based professional was outstanding in the tournament that attracted over 40 players who took to the field in the three-day event.
To win his second tournament Sembo carded rounds of 65, 68 and 75 for a total 208 and pocketed US$1 520 for his efforts.
Sembo, who took the lead from the onset on Monday, was happy with his win and is looking forward to win more upcoming tournaments on the local scene.
“I am very happy with my performances over the last three days. It was a great tournament but I managed good scores on the opening two rounds and I managed to hang on the final day.
“The tournament was tough considering that I was playing some of the top professionals in the country. It was tough playing against Visitor Mapwanya and Nyasha Muyambo who are playing on the Sunshine Tour. I hope to join them later on but my focus now is on the local tournaments.
“The last day proved tough to me as it was windy but I am grateful to my friend Howard Bhauti who has been supportive on and off the field. Ever since I started taking to the gym my drive has improved immensely and I am happy for that,” said Sembo.
Billy Geach was second and had a difficult third round as well when he carded one-over-par 71 having scored 69 and 67 in the opening two rounds.
The former St Georges College student was competing in his first major tournament after he was part of Hamilton College in the United States.
Ryan Cairns and Mapwanya were tied on third position on six-under-par 210.
Cairns had rounds of 71, 70 and 68 while Mapwanya carded rounds of 65, 74 and 71.
Amateur golfer David Amm, who is on vacation from his Tolledo University base in the United States, was on fifth place on four-under-212 while Shaahid Mahmed and Phillip Tshuma were on level par 216.
Promise Sumbrero Ignatius Mketekete and Nevy Milanzi completed the top 10.
