The three suspects are believed to have fled to South Africa with their heinous harvest. Acting provincial police spokesperson for Matabeleland South province, Sergeant Loveness Mangena said the incident occurred at around 7pm in Nqama village near Ndlome mountains.
She said on the fateful day, the trio of Mukhokheli Ncube (30), Mhlanguli Ncube (33) and Jabulani Ndlovu (age not given) went to Sibanda’s homestead looking for his son.
“The suspects who were carrying a bottle of Nikolai vodka went to Kara Sibanda’s homestead in Nqama village, where they were looking for his son they claimed to be their friend.
“However, they found Kara and his wife and offered to wait for the son to come back.
“While waiting, they started drinking beer together with the now deceased and later decided to go and continue with the drinking spree at the local business centre.
“The suspects left with Sibanda on the understanding they would buy more beer.
“When they had travelled for one kilometre, they fatally stabbed him all over the body with a knife.
“They then skinned his head and took his hair, left ear, eyes and the skin from the head after which they dragged him for 100 metres from the crime scene and dumped his body on the foot of the mountain range,” Sergeant Loveness Mangena said.
“The issue came to light when Sibanda did not return home that day prompting his wife to alert other villagers.
“His body was discovered after two days by another villager who was looking for some firewood in the bush. She then alerted his wife and a report was in turn made to the police.
“The body has since been taken to Esigodini Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem. The suspects are still at large and are reported to have escaped to South Africa.
“Preliminary investigations also reveal that the suspects had five years ago accused Kara Sibanda of killing their father and committed the crime to avenge the killing of their father,” she said.
He urged people to desist from taking the law into their own hands.
‘‘It is not clear why they took his body parts though we are treating the case as a ritual murder,” she said.
