SENIOR police officers with the rank of chief superintendent are attending a training workshop in Harare as the police service continues to intensify training and capacitation to improve service delivery.
The senior officers are normally officers commanding districts and head various departments and sections within the police service.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the senior officers attending the training workshop were drawn from various districts and departments countrywide.
On Thursday, the senior officers were addressed by Police Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba, who urged them to remain professional when discharging their duties.
“As the training and capacitation of ZRP members continues, the Commissioner-General of Police addressed a contingent of Chief Superintendents at ZRP Sport Club, Mkushi Academy, this afternoon,” Comm Nyathi said.
“The training workshop is part of the ZRP’s commitment to improve service delivery to Zimbabweans.”
Early this comes more than 38 police instructors also graduated at Shamva Battle Camp last week, while more police inspectors also underwent a junior officers command at the Buchwa Training Centre.
The police instructors graduated during a pass-out parade, which was presided over by Deputy Commissioner-General (Human Resources) Mind Elliot Ngirandi.
In March, at least 39 other police officers also graduated at Mkushi Camp (formerly Morris Depot) in Harare after undergoing a three-month rigorous training.
They are responsible for transforming or training civilians into police officers.
Speaking at the event, Principal Police Staff College Commissioner Edward Tshuma said the ZRP’s mandate as prescribed by the Constitution was to detect, investigate and prevent crime, preserving internal security, protecting and securing the lives and property of the people, maintaining law and order, and upholding the Constitution and enforcing the law without fear or favour.
“Human capital development, in any organisation, forms the basis of its effectiveness and continued relevance. In line with the Zimbabwe Republic Police Strategic Plan Moonshot 2030 and the national aspirations of Vision 2030, the ZRP has made deliberate efforts to embrace training so that it is in tandem with the trajectory of national development. Central to this effort is innovation by all rank and file,” he said.
The officers covered subjects such as Foot and Arms Drill, Training Methods, Management of Training, Basic Concepts of Micro-Teaching theory and practice, as well as counter-insurgency training.
