SETH Patrick finally got his chance to make his debut for a local Premiership side and the immediate report card is that he was quite impressive in Eswatini.
The 26-year-old midfielder has already played for the Young Warriors but this was his first appearance for a local club after he joined Scottland during the mid-season transfer window.
He had built this career playing in European football where, among the clubs he featured for were Scottish side Brechin City and East Fife.
It’s ironical that his first game, for a Zimbabwean club, was for a club that has a name which has the same ringing tone as the European country where he made his name featuring for Scottish clubs.
Given the high stakes in Scottland’s Champions League preliminary round tie against Nsigizini Hotspurs of Eswatini, Norman Mapeza’s decision to throw him straight into battle has proved to be a masterstroke.
In such assignments, reputations and careers can either be made or destroyed.
But Seth embraced the challenge and he is being praised for his outstanding performance which helped the Scotts qualify for the first round of the tournament. “Midfielder Seth Patrick made his full debut for Scottland and put up an outstanding display at the Somhlolo National Stadium,” the club said on their social media platforms.
“Scottland and Nsingizini settled for an entertaining goalless draw in the CAF Champions League, preliminary round second leg.
“Scottland progress to the next round on a 1-0 goal aggregate.
”Marshall Gore, the UK-based football administrator who has worked with Seth in the past, also praised the midfielder’s performance.
“Good to see our very own Seth Patrick former Captain of Team Zimbabwe UK playing a blinder for Scotland F.C in the CAF Champions League game in (Eswatini).
“Well done Seth. Keep shining”
