Seven people died while 15 others were injured in two separate road traffic accidents that occurred in Harare and Battlefields this week, police have confirmed.

Four of the victims were killed on Tuesday when a Nissan Caravan commuter omnibus they were travelling in overturned along the Harare – Bulawayo Road near Battlefields.

Eleven other passengers were injured in the crash, which happened around 11 am at the 178 km peg near Battlefields.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said the kombi that had 14 passengers on board, veered off the road and landed on its roof after its left rear tyre burst.

“Four people were killed while 11 others were injured when a Nissan Caravan kombi with 14 passengers on board veered off the road before landing on its roof after the left rear tyre of the vehicle burst,” he said in a statement.

In a separate accident in Harare, three people were killed and four others injured when a Toyota Hilux GD6 collided head-on with a Nissan NV200 at Bradford Turn-off along the same highway on November 16 at around 8.30pm.

The Hilux had three passengers on board, while the NV200 was carrying four.

Commissioner Nyathi said further details on both accidents will be released in due course.
