A 21-year-old Bulawayo man has been sentenced to nine months in prison for having sexual intercourse once with a 16-year old ‘girlfriend’.

Nqobile Ndlovu of Pumula South appeared before Western Commonage magistrate, Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube, facing a charge of having sexual intercourse with a minor.

He was sentenced to 14 months in prison of which five months were suspended for three years on condition that within that period he does not commit a similar offence. The remaining nine months are effective.

Prosecutor, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that the accused person is the complainant’s boyfriend.

In the month of August 2025, the complainant paid a visit to her aunt’s place of residence who is a neighbour to the accused.

The case was reported to the police on February 25 by the complainant after her aunt had beaten her up, said Mr Dzimbanhete.
