A 24-year-old commercial sex worker was robbed and killed by two unknown men whom she had charged US$20 for her services in Bikita last Thursday, while a couple in Sanyati has been arrested for killing a nine-month old baby before burying the body in a shallow grave.
The 24-year-old Bikita woman was severely assaulted with sticks after offering her services to the men who later demanded their money back.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects who are still at large.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
“The ZRP is investigating a murder case where a woman aged 24 was attacked by two unknown male suspects whom she had offered sex at a charge of US$20 at Makaya Village, Bikita, on November 17, 2022,” he said.
“After the act, the suspects allegedly demanded the money they had paid for the services before severely assaulting the victim with sticks and robbing her of US$20. The victim succumbed to the injuries sustained on November 18, 2022.”
In another case, police in Zvimba are investigating a murder case where Welfare Gombingo (42) allegedly killed his 17-year-old niece after he assaulted her for coming back late from church on October 30.
The victim, who sustained severe injuries, died last Friday while admitted at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital.
In Sanyati, police acted on a tip-off and arrested Pelagia Jakaza (19) and her husband, Bonface Mberengwa (23), for a case of murder in which they allegedly conspired to kill Pelagia Jakaza’s nine-month-old child sired from a previous relationship by drowning the victim in a bucket of water, on November 9, 2022.
The two buried the remains in a shallow grave on an anthill at Mapfuti Village, Sanyati.
Police recovered the bucket used in drowning the victim and exhumed the body.
“The ZRP is also investigating a murder case in which the body of a 29-year-old man was found lying on the ground in a pool of blood with three stab wounds on the back, on Saturday, in Garikai, Norton,” Asst Comm Nyathi said.
Last Thursday, police in Epworth arrested Innocent Zaruma (34) for a murder case in which he attacked his ex-wife, Talent Simba (23), and Surance Sithole (22) after he had found the two walking together near Mabvazuva Secondary school.
The suspect stabbed Surance Sithole once on the stomach before dragging his ex-wife to an unknown place, leaving the victim with protruding intestines.
Sithole was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
In another case, police in Esigodini are investigating a murder case where Mqondisi Ndlovu (31) died while admitted at Esigodini District Hospital last Tuesday after he had been severely attacked by Lazarous Derrick Nyathi (30), Carlos Phiri (20) and a 16-year-old juvenile in the Nwazi area, Esigodini.
