A SEXUAL harassment storm is brewing at a leading bakery in Marondera.
H-Metro understands that a manager has been fired from his job in the wake of the storm.
Evans Koga, who worked at Proton Bakery, is believed to be the manager who has lost his job after being accused of allegedly sexually harassing female employees.
No comment could be obtained from Koga or management at Proton Bakeries.
One of the affected workers escalated the case to the United Food and Allied Workers union of Zimbabwe (Ufawuz).
The union has been pushing Proton Bakeries to act on the complaints received from the employee.
H-Metro is in possession of a letter dated August 24, 2026, in which the union’s General Secretary, Mutero, said it had come to their attention that acts of sexual harassment were being committed by management at Proton Bakers.
The union’s correspondence named the employee accused of sexually molesting a female employee, and demanded action from the bakery’s authorities.
The letter stated that the union gave the management 24 hours to respond and explain what actions had been taken.
It said no response was received within the stipulated time.
“We wrote to you as directors highlighting the gravity of such actions by management towards female employees, whether married or not,” the letter read.
The union said it was dismayed that the Human Resources Manager and the directors of Proton Bakers remained silent despite what it described as serious allegations.
“As a trade union, we will not condone such behaviour.
“We will not leave women in the workplace at the mercy of managers who seek to exploit them by demanding sexual favours in exchange for guarantees of contract extension,” the letter continued.
The union added that it would not tolerate coerced consent, especially where it is linked to non-renewal of employment contracts.
It said, should management fail to respond within the required time, the matter would be referred to the Gender Commission for investigation into the extent of abuse and sexual harassment in the workplace.
The letter further warned that, if the union’s requests were not addressed, it would mobilise other women’s groups to fight for protection for women who it said are being subjected to sexual harassment at Proton Bakers.
