ZIFA Central Soccer League champions Shabanie Mine have begun the hunt for a new coach following the departure of Tendai Chikuni, who joined Midlands rivals Chapungu.
Several coaches have applied for the job, among them Godfrey Tamirepi, former Border Strikers coach Luke Masomere, John Phiri, Tom Ruzive, former Chicken Inn coach Mandla Mpofu and Partson Ndabambi.
Shabanie Mine chairman Elias Marufu said there has been an overwhelming interest for the head coach’s job and the club would be unveiling the new coach at the end of this week.
“We have received more than 10 CVs from coaches interested in the job, which shows that Shabanie Mine is a big brand capable of attracting some of the best coaches in the country.
“The executive will meet this week to select the best out of these many applicants before making an announcement on the new coach at the end of this week,” said Marufu.
He said after the unveiling of the new coach, the club would then start negotiating contracts with players.
“We do not want to be in a situation whereby we sign players without the coach’s input because we will run the risk of having a player who does not feature in the coach’s plans.
“It’s only after the finalisation of hiring the coach that we will start contract talks with players.”
The asbestos miners will play in the PSL this year should the Zifa extraordinary general meeting resolution to relegate two teams and promote four stand.
The resolution will only hold if the PSL consent and withdraw the case it filed with the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
