Shake up at Zimbabwe Saints

in which the club chairman becomes the president.

Gibson Homela was at the weekend elevated to Saints president. He replaced Felix Dzumbunu who was chairman but indicated he could not take up the new post due to pressing work commitments at his Thermal Engineering which is on an expansion drive in the country and beyond the borders.

Club administrative secretary Innocent Kurwa confirmed this yesterday.

“We have as a club decided to adopt the envisaged administrative structure by Zifa-Fifa in terms of positions by having Gibson

Homela coming in as club president to replace chairman Dzumbunu who is now patron.”

Homela who has seen it all at the club in the last 50 years rating as one of the most decorated player and coach, will be deputised by miner and long time club member Ishmael Kaguru.

Dzumbunu who has long indicated that he wants a break from the game was persuaded to stay on as patron. He was asked to help with marketing.

Jabulani Chinyangarara who was the club’s organising secretary has been given the role of board member competitions.
Amon Tafeni, a member of the club’s old guard who has held several positions at the club before, will be the member in charge of development.

Caleb Sengu who was the secretary of the 1977 and 1988 league and Chibuku Trophy winners, becomes the board member in charge of finance.

Andrew Chadya who was club treasurer is now a committee member in the new structure.
Kurwa said his role was purely on voluntary basis.

He said he was confident that Saints who have started on a high note having won both their matches in the Southern Region Division One Soccer League would perform to expectations.

Dzumbunu confirmed that he would remain committed to serving Saints in his new portfolio of club patron.

He said the role was not as demanding as being chairman.

“Yes we had a meeting where we came up with a new structure. I am happy for the guys who have come on board in the new structure. I will continue to give the club my best and I wish we do well and win the championship.

“We have had a good start and we wish the boys could continue to produce so that we return to the Premiership next season,” said Dzumbunu.
