A 37-year-old man from Shamva fell into a mine shaft and died after the rope he was using to lower his friend down the shaft slipped
Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Major Samuel Chikasha identified the deceased as Tapiwa Chidenyika of Mbavara Village under Chief Bushu in Shamva.
The incident happened on October 20 this year at around 5 pm.
Chidenyika was in the company of a friend, Gift Jeke (27), at Deep 3 Mine in Shamva.
Sergeant Major Chikasha said Chidenyika was lowering Jeke into a mine shaft with a rope tied to a pulley popularly known as Mukiringo.
“The rope slipped, and Chidenyuka fell into the mine shaft, which is approximately 42 metres deep,” said Sergeant Major Chikasha.
Abmile Dhengezi entered the shaft to assist Chidenyika, but he was already dead. A report was made at ZRP Shamva, and police officers attended the scene.
The deceased’s body was retrieved from the shaft. The body had deep cuts on the head, bruises all over the body, and a fractured left leg.
