Shamva woman lives in pain: ‘My breasts bleed and almost touch the ground!’

IN a chilling tale from Shamva, a 36-year-old woman is living a real-life horror as her breasts swell uncontrollably, bleed daily, and now hang dangerously close to the ground.

Marbel Manyaura, once a vibrant young woman from Chief Marimira’s village, says her life has been shattered by an unexplained medical condition that began as early as age 18 — but turned nightmarish in 2023.

“My breasts started swelling, they’re now about a metre long. They bleed so much I could fill 5 litres of blood, and the pain is unbearable. I can’t wear a bra or even work,” she said from her sickbed in Kandava, Seke, where she now lives under the care of her sister, Ottilia Kachanzi (45).

Abandoned by her husband and mocked by strangers, Marbel is emotionally and physically broken.
“People call me names — some say I’m a prostitute or that I’m still breastfeeding. My husband left me saying he couldn’t handle this,” she said.

Her condition has rendered her helpless.
“I can’t even bend over. When I try, my breasts nearly touch the floor. I live in constant pain.”
Doctors believe the condition may be linked to breast cancer, moles, or ulcers, and experts like Dr Abigail Jemedze and Dr Innocent Kundiona have urged urgent specialist attention. But treatment at Karanda Hospital costs US$250 — money she doesn’t have.

Traditionalists like Zinatha’s George Kandiyero believe witchcraft could be at play, while religious leaders like Rev Hazvinei Muchefa are calling for spiritual intervention.

With two hungry children, no income, and no home of her own, Marbel’s desperate plea is simple:
“Help me get treatment. I just want to live again.”
