RENOWNED educationist and one of Bulawayo’s prominent businessmen Mr Clemence Kunzekweguta says moral decadency and various delinquencies among the youth were becoming a threat to career of many pupils.

Speaking as a guest of honour during a prize-giving day at Mahlothovu Secondary School in Umguza District last week, Mr Kunzekweguta said there was a need for parents to offer their children proper parental guidance through advising them to refrain from indulging in intoxicating substances and sexual activities as this had a negative impact on their studies.

“The girl child should be disciplined and to forego that immediate pleasure for long time happiness because if they fail to do so they risk living in abject poverty for the rest of their lives through indulging in premarital sex.

“It is same with the boys, they partake intoxicating substances which makes it difficult for them to concentrate on their studies. It’s now up to us as parents to participate effectively in shaping the future of our children,” he said.

Mr Kunzekweguta said the economic meltdown being faced by the country has also play a part in undermining the value of education among the youths.

“I think our children have also lost the value of education, they think because of the distortion of the economy education is not valuable,” he said.

A number of pupils received prizes for excelling in both academic and sporting disciplines.
