THERE is need to collectively realign commitment to create a more inclusive, accountable and resilient environment to achieve goals outlined in National Development Strategy 1 and 2 (NDS1 and NDS2) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Special Advisor to the President on Monitoring, Implementation of Government Programmes Dr Jorum Gumbo, made the remarks today in his keynote address at the ongoing Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Week programme being held in Harare.

He said the realisation of Vision 2030 depended on effectively embedding monitoring, evaluation and learning into the operation of the Government.

“These critical tools provide the Government with invaluable insights which allow it to measure progress, learn from past experiences, understand its current position and chart the most effective course towards the desired outcomes,” he said.

Speaking at the same event, United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Mr Edward Kallon commended Zimbabwe for engagement in the national review process, saying it reflects the country’s best stream of accountability into national and local development processes, a move that the UN strongly approves and supports.

“I also want to commend Zimbabwe for its active engagement in the voluntary national review process,” he said.

“The voluntary local review, which reflects Zimbabwe’s development goals, progress, shared lessons, and strength in service delivery by aligning policies with the needs of communities.

“By integrating monetary evaluation into voluntary national reviews and voluntary local reviews, the Government of Zimbabwe is best streamlining accountability into national and local development processes, a move that the United Nations strongly approves and supports.”

The programme, which is in its third day, has seen various top Government officials, UN officials and other stakeholders attending.
