We wonder who is next. This is the question a South African royal family, Nyalunga family is asking themselves following the brutal death of the late Mpumalanga Chief Clyde Mnisi’s sister.
Mnisi’s sister, Charlotte Nyalungu (35) was gunned down in Hazyview on 6 June while she was at the drive-thru of a certain food outlet. Her brutal murder comes three months after her two brothers were assassinated at a tavern in Calcutta in February.
On the day Charlotte was killed, it is alleged that two armed men in a silver grey Toyota Etios with Gauteng registration plates opened fire, injuring a male passenger while Nyalunga tragically succumbed to her injuries and was certified dead on the scene by paramedics.
A family member who spoke on condition of anonymity told Daily Sun that they fear for their lives. He said the family doesn’t know what is really happening.
“We are worried because all the people died by the gun. We don’t know who is next and even if we ask ourselves that question, no one will answer us. We wish the police get to the bottom of this because no one has been arrested since the previous killings,” he said.
He added that the family now lives in fear and called on the police to find the killers before they kill everyone in the family.
“We are scared. We are shocked by everything that is happening. We wish the police arrest the people who are behind these killings so that we can live in peace,” he said.
In March 2023, Mnisi who was chief of the Hoxana Tribal Authority was allegedly shot dead by five unknown men along the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport Road. Mnisi was with his driver when he was killed.
The 37-year-old Mnisi was described as one of the kingpins in a rhino poaching syndicate. He was implicated in the syndicate when one of the members was sentenced to 32 years.
In April 2023, his wife, Charlene Matthews (30) was gunned down at their family home. In August 2023, the family was dealt another heavy blow when gunmen attacked and killed Eric Madala Mnisi (72), who was officially appointed to succeeded Mnisi.
In February, Mnisi’s two brothers were shot and killed at a tavern in Calcutta. Vutlhari Nyalungu (30) and Phungu Nyalungu (30) were found lying not far from each other.
President of Contralesa, Kgoshi Lameck Mokoena has condemned the incident. He said if there are any differences, there are many channels to resolve them.
“The method they are using is not right. The way things are happening is very shocking. We condemn the brutal killings and would like to call on government to intervene in finding these perpetrators. They cannot do as they wish and get away with it just like that,” he said.
Mpumalanga police spokesman, Colonel Donald Mdluli, said the police are investigating a murder case. He further called on the community to help with any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects. (Source: www. snl24.com/dailysun).
