The country’s longest-running urban culture festival, the Shoko Festival 2024, kicks off on September 26 and runs until 28.
This year’s edition has an exciting line-up of performances and events that highlight the rich tapestry of local and international talent.
South African-based hip-hop sensation Nadia Nakai, Zimdancehall star Master H, chart-topping rapper Voltz JT, rising hip-hop artist Kayflow, and Afro-pop powerhouse Tamy Moyo will headline the festival.
America’s Got Talent finalist, US-based Zimbabwean comedian, Learnmore Jonasi will also perform at the festival.
Running under the theme ‘#BothSidesOfSamora’, the festival aims to bridge social divides and celebrate the diverse cultural backgrounds of Zimbabweans.
It will start with Shoko Comedy Night on September 26, featuring Jonasi as the headliner.
The following night, Mash Up Night will showcase over 15 acts, including performances by Nakai and Kayflow.
The main event will be held at the Chitungwiza Unit L Community Hall Grounds, featuring an array of exciting performances.
Shoko Festival director Samm Farai Monro, also known as Comrade Fatso, said this year’s edition of the festival is celebrating Zimbabweans who are doing well on the international stage.
“We are proud to bring home Zimbabwean talent like Learnmore Jonasi and Nadia Nakai as our headliners,” he said.
“At the same time, we are excited to present powerful new Zimbabwean urban acts and unique programming that challenges the norm and stirs things up.”
The festival will also host the Hub Unconference at Moto Republik from September 24 to 25.
This creative and digital event will feature over eight international speakers and 20 local speakers discussing emerging trends in artificial intelligence, civic tech and digital media.
Shoko Festival 2024 is not just a celebration of music and comedy; it is a vibrant showcase of free expression, cutting-edge urban art, and alternative youth culture.
