THE shooting season began yesterday at Cleveland Range with the annual Zimbabwe National Army Chief of Staff All Comers competition with more than 450 shootists taking part.  The competition has attracted teams from all ZNA formations, the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the Zimbabwe Prison Services, the Airforce of Zimbabwe, the President’s Office, war veterans, Murenga Club, civilians, security companies and other shooting clubs affiliated to the National Rifle Association of Zimbabwe.

Event coordinator, Charles Mazaiwana, said all was set for the competition.

“The Chief of Staff All Comers Shoot, which is the first to be conducted every year, is also a precursor to other subsequent annual major shooting competitions such as the Skill at Arms Meeting and the prestigious President’s Medal Shoot

“The tournament is organised annually to sharpen skills of members of the security forces as well as provide them with a platform to interact and cement their relations with members of the communities within which they operate.

“Rugaro Angirai of Headquarters Harare District is the defending champion and will battle it out with Mambara Tinashe of Mounted Regiment and Matsa Tinashe of 5 Infantry Brigade who settled for second and third positions last year.

“Besides members of the Zimbabwe National Army taking part in the week-long shooting jamboree, the competition has also attracted contestants from the Air Force of Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services, the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the President’s Office, the War Veterans and other civilian teams affiliated to the National Riffles Association of Zimbabwe,” said Mazaiwana.
