SHOWER Power, which is arguably the most prolific Zimbabwean acappella group, is still going strong as it recently launched its ninth album. 7 Arts theatre was packed as the acapella legends performed their album entitled Latter Rains.

After a three-year silence, since their album “The Journey” which was launched on 22 December 2012, Shower Power has released an eight-track album.

The launch concert was flawless with no glitches whatsoever. It was all about the voices, soprano, baritone, and tenors. Who needs instruments with the type of talent that was displayed at the concert?

Backed by jaw dropping acts such as Prosper, Just 6, The Family and Reclaim, it was difficult to differentiate between the supporting acts and the headliners.

In an interview with the Zimbo Jam, the group’s leader Mandikudze Sithole said that the reason that they waited so long before another release was that they were waiting for inspiration from God, as they wanted to do better than their previous album.

“We prayed and prayed, and the Lord inspired the type music we produced, not entertainment but the message” revealed Sithole.

On why the album was named Latter Rain, Sithole said, “Latter Rain is the latter rain that comes when a fruit is ready for harvest. In the spiritual world, it’s the rain that is going to be poured out on the last days so that Christians are ready to be harvested.”

“The type of songs that we have are the type of songs that talk about the holy spirit, about the heart, about preparing for the second coming, about heaven.”

The album will be available online through itunes and SDA bookshops.

Since its inception in 1992, Shower Power’s group has only changed its group member setup 8 times with the music only growing better with each album. The Seventh Day Adventist group has toured the world and won the 2014 CARAs (Contemporary Acapella Recording Award) for Best African Acapella Group. — zimbojam
