Shurugwi residents have hailed the town’s proposed 2018 budget which is aimed at improving service delivery. Shurugwi Town Council recently proposed a $4 million budget for 2018, with the council prioritising the purchase of new equipment to improve its water pumping capacity. Shurugwi Residents and Ratepayers Association (SRRA) spokesperson Mr Clement Chitakunye said they were happy that the council wants to improve on service delivery.
“We welcome the 2018 budget and we appreciate the council’s effort to try and improve on service delivery. We are pleased to hear that council intends to purchase a refuse compactor to improve on waste collection as well as purchasing pumps to improve its water pumping capacity,” he said. Chitakunye also applauded Shurugwi Town Council for its decision to rehabilitate Mambowa and Makusha clinics.
“We are also happy that our council also refurbished and introduced maternal services at Makusha and Mambowa clinics. This will go a long way in decongesting Shurugwi District Hospital which has been the only referral hospital in the district. Improving on service delivery will also motivate residents to service their accounts,” he said. Mr Chitakunye said the town council should improve on reaching out to residents in the budget formulation process.
“We feel that they should have done more consulting us on what we think are the priorities for the betterment of our town,” he said.
