Midlands Chairman for Miners for Economic Development (Miners4ED) Cde Crispen Mahara yesterday donated 10 state-of-the-art laptops to the Shurugwi Town Police Station, a gesture aimed at enhancing efficiency in the security sector through modernisation
The laptops were presented to Inspector Dannymore Matanhuse, Acting Officer in Charge of the police station by Cde Owen Ncube, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Gweru.

Minister Ncube commended Cde Mahara’s donation, emphasising that the modernisation of Government systems aligns with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), which aims to establish an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
He said, “Laptops allow for real-time access to databases, reducing response times in emergencies and streamlining administrative tasks like report filing and data entry.

“This digitisation enhances the efficiency of information handling, making police work quicker and more accurate, in line with President Mnangagwa’s vision of modernization and achieving Vision 2030.”
He further noted, “With these laptops, officers can manage and analyse large volumes of data more effectively, fostering improved communication and cost efficiency.”
Cde Mahara, who also serves as the Zanu-PF Shurugwi District Coordinating Committee Secretary for Mines and Energy Development, highlighted his deep-rooted connection to the community.
Having been born and raised in Shurugwi, he has actively participated in various projects, including road rehabilitation and community support initiatives as a way of giving back to the community.
Cde Mahara said, “The police play a pivotal role in maintaining peace in our mining town, which is often associated with violence and drug abuse.
“Therefore, I found it essential to equip our police with modern tools to enable them to perform their duties efficiently.”
Inspector Matanhuse expressed his gratitude to Cde Mahara for the donation, stating that computers have become indispensable in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.

“This donation is a testament to our commitment to providing quality service and equipping our police officers with the necessary tools for effective policing in the 21st century,” he said.
“These laptops will empower our officers with access to vital digital resources and foster essential skills in technology, critical thinking, and problem-solving,” he added.
Inspector Matanhuse assured the community that the police would continue to work tirelessly to combat crime and meet public expectations.
“As we move forward, we will strive to ensure that our policing systems and procedures are inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the evolving needs of the public.
“I, therefore, extend my heartfelt gratitude to Mr Mahara for his generosity and support, your contribution will have a lasting impact on our lives as police officers and the future of our nation.”
