ZIMBABWE’S rising golf star Keegan Shutt made a sensational debut on the American college circuit, finishing tied for fourth at The Poss High Country Shootout held at The Links at Sierra Blanca in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
Competing in his first tournament since joining Odessa College in Texas, Shutt posted a remarkable 15-under-par 201 —just four shots behind teammate Jules De Brauwere, who claimed the individual title with a score of 19-under 197.
Their combined efforts helped Odessa edge Midland College by a single stroke to win the team championship, finishing with a total of 58-under.
Shutt displayed composure from the outset.
He opened with a steady three-under 69, which included six birdies, a bogey and a double bogey.
His second round was even more impressive. Playing bogey-free, he carded a blistering nine-under 63, featuring seven birdies and an eagle.
That round included three consecutive birdies on holes four to six, an eagle on the par-five seventh, and another birdie streak on holes 12, 13 and 14, before closing with one more on the 16th.
He rounded off his debut with another 69, highlighted by seven birdies, though offset by four bogeys.
After dropping a shot on the fourth, he responded with three birdies in succession. Consecutive bogeys on the 10th and 11th were quickly answered with back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th, before signing off with a final birdie on the 18th.
Fellow Zimbabwean Tanaka Chatora, now based at Weatherford College, was also in action.
He finished tied for 41st on three-under 213 after carding rounds of 71, 74 and 68. Weatherford placed fourth in the team standings with a combined score of 39-under.
