LADY Chevrons captain Nomvelo Sibanda has demanded an improved bowling performance when Zimbabwe face South Africa Women in the third T20I at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo today.
Zimbabwe trail 2–0 in the five-match series and must win to keep the contest alive after defeats by six wickets and 64 runs in the opening two matches.
South Africa amassed 193 for three on Sunday before restricting Zimbabwe to 129 for seven.
Sibanda blamed the defeat on loose bowling and poor execution of their plans.
“I thought our bowling was below par. We bowled too many loose deliveries, sometimes two or three in an over, and we did not do justice to ourselves,” said Sibanda.
“We also failed to bowl according to our field settings, and that put us on the back foot.”
Anneke Bosch spearheaded South Africa’s innings with 65 from 31 deliveries, while Faye Tunnicliffe struck an unbeaten 52 and Annerie Dercksen contributed 36 not out.
Michelle Mavunga was Zimbabwe’s most economical bowler, taking one for 25 from four overs.
“I thought she bowled exceptionally well. We asked her to consistently hit a good length, and she executed that very well,” said Sibanda.
Despite the result, the skipper was encouraged by Zimbabwe’s fielding and her unbroken 45-run partnership with Christine Mutasa, who top-scored with an unbeaten 30.
“The little partnership towards the end was a positive,” said Sibanda.
“Our fielding was also encouraging. We took our chances, and the fact that we are creating opportunities is another positive. I think we are doing well in that department.”
Zimbabwe’s top order has struggled in both matches, with the hosts bowled out for 116 in the opener before reaching 129 for seven on Sunday. Sibanda said the team would focus on achievable targets as they seek to revive the series.
